THE WINEMAKER
Elías López Montero

Member of a family linked to the wine business since 1788, Elías began his professional career in 2001, working for Vinícola de Tomelloso, Altosa and Aalto in Ribera del Duero before moving to Bergkelder in South Africa.
In 2005, Elías assumed the Technical Management of the family proyect Bodegas Verum in Tomelloso. Verum meant a change of philosophy in the wineries of Castilla La Mancha.
In 2016, with the collaboration of winemaker Hans Vinding-Diers, Elías begins to make wine in Patagonia Argentina, finally taking over the technical management of the entire project in 2019. Elías has been named one of the 10 winemakers called to change wine in Spain by Decanter.
Elías seek to elaborate wines that are capable of transmitting their origin. He is convinced that it is in the vineyard where wine is made. He is committed to varietal excellence, to show the essence of the land and its character. He seeks to make wines of great elegance, purity and balance. He likes challenges, respecting the characteristics of the area, with the minimum possible intervention to produce great wines. He believes in respect for the land and defends sustainability in the vineyard and in the winery, doing an increasingly meticulous work of respect for the terroir and seeking to be a reference in quality wines.
THE WINERY
VERUM by Verum

With his southern hemisphere winemaking experience (South Africa), Elías López Montero keeps looking for new challenges. Due to climate change everyone is looking north, but thanks to Elias’ experience, he looked southward to Patagonia, the most southern wine region of the planet. There he found the right vineyard and winery to give shape to the project VERUM by Verum.
The collaboration agreement between López Montero and del Río Elorza families to give birth to VERUM by Verum project came to easily. Elías signed his first wine: MARÍA VICTORIA MALBEC 100% from the equally named state, other projects will follow after.
