- Passionfruit, blackcurrant and a distinct saline minerality.
- Blackcurrant, guava and passionfruit are captured alongside the subltes hint of oyster-shell. This wine is focused and explosive on both nose and palate yet remains elegantly balanced and distinctly salty.

Vineyard & Winemaking
|Vineyard||Holdaway Family -Dillons Point|
|Description||This vineyard belongs to the Holdaway family who have been farming in Marlborough since 1864. They practice sustainable viticulture with such things as their own compost and mulching preparations to maintain organic matter in the soil.The soils are fertile and deep but well-drained, with plenty of mineral nutrients which is perfect for Sauvignon. Unusually this parcel is dry-farmed, so the roots go deep, maintaining vigour via the pure underground acquifers.|
|Soil||Alluvial silty soil.|
|Winemaking||The grapes were harvested by machine in the cool of the night to ensure no harsh phenolics were extracted and acidity preserved. Fruit was pressed off quickly to avoid skin contact and drained straight to one small tank. The juice was settled naturally and fermented in stainless steel at cook temperatures an then on light less for 5 months for increased textural complexity.|
|Aging||Gentle cross-flow filtration.|
|Bottling date||October 2019|
Sophie Parker-Thomson & Matt Thomson
Sophie is a lawyer by training but she grew up in a family where wine and hospitality ruled supreme. She has been involved in 18 back-to-back Northern and Southern Hemisphere vintages. She is currently studying for the Master of Wine qualification, having completed the WSET Diploma in 2014.
Matt is a biochemist by training and came from a legal family. He has been immersed in European winemaking for 28 years, assisted 55 back-to-back Northern and Southern Hemisphere vintages. Matt has received countless awards and trophies, including International White Winemaker of the Year (IWC 2008) and NZ Winemaker of the Year (WineState).
Blank Canvas is the personal wine range of husband and wife team, Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson. Having completed over fifty back-to-back vintages in both New Zealand and Europe as an award-winning winemaking consultant, Matt together with Sophie felt it was time to create and build a wine brand together, with their first vintage in 2013. Blank Canvas embodies their own expression of art-meets-science with single-vineyard, small batch wines that push the sensory boundaries and challenge winemaking orthodoxy.
